Pakistan, Aug. 17 -- Pakistan's federal government debt increased by Rs18,832 billion during the 28 months ending June 2026, with domestic borrowing accounting for most of the overall rise.

State Bank of Pakistan data showed domestic debt increased by Rs16,766 billion between February 2024 and June 2026, while external debt rose by another Rs2,066 billion during the same period.

The figures show the government's total debt stood at Rs64,810 billion in February 2024, the final month of the caretaker administration. By June 2026, the figure had climbed to Rs83,642 billion.
