Pakistan, Aug. 9 -- Karachi's industrial base has expressed grave concern as goods transporters' countrywide strike has threatened to choke supply lines, with SITE exporters and FBATI SMEs warning of immediate production cuts, missed export orders and job losses.

Malik Shahzad Awan, President of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Ittehad, said the strike will continue until the government addresses transporters' long-standing grievances about taxes, tolls and harassment. The deadlock has triggered alarm across the city's manufacturing hubs, as Awan has also demanded the resignations of Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Punjab's Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Bilal Akbar Khan, the Transport Minister of Punjab.
