Pakistan, Sept. 11 -- The European Commission has approved a €6.1 billion defense package for Ukraine. The funding will support air defense, drones and missiles.

The decision allows Kyiv to use EU support funding to purchase US-made PAC-3 interceptor missiles. These weapons are used with Patriot air defense systems and can intercept ballistic missiles.

The approval does not mean immediate missile deliveries for Ukraine. Kyiv faces a global shortage of Patriot interceptors as it prepares for another winter of Russian attacks.

European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius confirmed the decision in Brussels on Friday. He said the package was formally approved after EU member states backed the measures earlier this week.
