Balochistan has lived too long with betrayal. On Monday, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti revealed the arrest of a suicide bomber and alleged that the plot led back to a university lecturer, Dr Muhammad Usman Qazi.

That an educator entrusted with shaping minds instead harboured militants, and is linked to the November 2024 Quetta railway station bombing, marks a new and dangerous low.

If true, the collapse cuts deeper than any single blast. Parents should not have to wonder whether teachers are preparing students for exams, or for safe houses.
