Pakistan, Aug. 30 -- China has identified 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries as missing after a devastating mudslide struck the Himalayan border region. The disaster followed a glacier collapse that sent ice, rocks, mud and debris through rivers toward a border crossing with Nepal. Meanwhile, the death toll in Tibet reached 16, while hundreds remained missing.

Officials from China's Tibet Autonomous Region said Nepal had the highest number of missing citizens at 104. They also reported 49 missing Indians, 33 Latvians, 18 Americans and 15 British nationals. Authorities said Beijing had informed the relevant foreign diplomatic missions about the missing people.
