Pakistan, Aug. 7 -- Belgium will deploy around 30 military personnel to Greenland in September under NATO's new Arctic Sentry mission. The deployment aims to strengthen NATO's presence in the strategically important Arctic region.

Defence Minister Theo Francken confirmed the deployment to Belgian broadcaster VTM on Friday. Belgian forces will include troops from the 1st Brigade and members of the Special Forces.

The mission will cover Greenland, Iceland and the Arctic Ocean. NATO established Arctic Sentry amid growing strategic interest from Russia and China in the region.
