Pakistan, May 25 -- Security forces carried out a joint intelligence-based operation against militants in the Miryan police station area of Bannu, killing eight suspected militants during an exchange of fire, officials said.

According to police sources, the operation was jointly conducted by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after receiving intelligence regarding militant presence in the area.

Authorities said several other militants were also injured during the operation, while one police official was martyred and another sustained injuries in the clash. The injured officer was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
