Pakistan, July 2 -- DHAKA - A court in Bangladesh on Wednesday sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to six months in jail for contempt of court, marking the first conviction since her ouster in 2024.
Hasina, 77, fled to India following a massive student-led uprising that forced her from office in August last year. She has since ignored court orders to return to the country. The court ruled that she will serve her sentence the moment she returns to Bangladesh or voluntarily surrenders.
