Pakistan, Aug. 11 -- A Syrian court sentenced former President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia on Tuesday. The court convicted him of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Assad left Syria after rebels captured Damascus in December 2024. He fled to Moscow with his family as his government collapsed.
