Pakistan, June 22 -- Right-wing candidate Abelardo de la Espriella has claimed victory in Colombia's closely contested presidential runoff after securing a slim lead in preliminary vote counts. With more than 99 percent of ballots counted, he received 49.7 percent of the vote, narrowly surpassing left-wing rival Ivan Cepeda, who secured 48.7 percent.

Backed by US President Donald Trump, de la Espriella campaigned on promises to strengthen law enforcement, combat armed groups, and intensify efforts against drug trafficking. Following the announcement, he told supporters that a new chapter was beginning for Colombia and pledged to govern on behalf of all citizens.
