ZANZIBAR, July 9 -- PRESIDENT Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar said the ongoing political reconciliation process is expected to strengthen national unity, restore public confidence and create a more conducive environment for economic growth, investment and social development.

Speaking during the signing of a joint declaration in Zanzibar marking the completion of the first phase of the reconciliation process, the Isles President described the milestone as a significant step towards implementing the constitutional provisions for the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
