DODOMA, May 1 -- YOUTH, women and investors have been urged to take advantage of apple farming as the country moves to reduce imports and strengthen domestic production.
Agriculture Minister Daniel Chongolo told the House that apple farming presents a strong economic opportunity with long-term returns.
“I call upon youth, women and investors to take advantage of apple farming and opportunities along its entire value chain,” he said.
He said Tanzania has long depended on imported apples despite having suitable climatic conditions in the Northern Zone, Central regions and Southern Highlands.
By March 2026, the country had imported 1,481.98 tonnes of apples, indicating high demand in the domestic market.
