DODOMA, May 9 -- EMPLOYEES who lose their jobs can now receive unemployment benefits in a lump sum within 90 days under improved social security regulations, the National Assembly was told yesterday.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Ministers Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Relations Dr Evaline Munisi said the arrangement falls under a special unemployment lump-sum programme introduced after consultations with stakeholders.

She was responding to Tunduru North MP, Ado Shaibu (ACT-Wazalendo), who questioned the governments continued opposition to reinstating withdrawal benefits for workers who lose employment or work under shortterm contracts.
