Tanzania suspends political parties' public meetings due rumours of illegal demonstrations
DODOMA, June 26 -- THE Tanzanian government has announced the suspension of all public meetings by political parties for the time being, saying the move is aimed at addressing threats of public disorder and illegal demonstrations allegedly being coordinated by some individuals through social media platforms.
Speaking in Parliament in Dodoma on June 26, 2026, Minister of Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi said he had instructed the Inspector General of Police, Camillus Wambura, to stop issuing permits for public political rallies to allow security organs to address threats that could endanger peace and stability in the country.
