DAR ES SALAAM, July 29 -- REFORMS in the handling of domestic workers labour disputes by the Commission for Mediation and Arbitration (CMA) have started to bring hope, with the case of Juma Kikonko (49) being cited as an example of improved access to justice for domestic workers.

Kikonko, who worked as a domestic worker for 17 years, filed a complaint with the CMA, alleging that he had been unfairly dismissed before the expiry of his employment contract.

The CHODAWU Regional Secretary for Tanga, Regula Mollel, said the case was first taken up by the union in September 2025 before being referred to the CMA after negotiations with the employer failed to reach a settlement.
