DODOMA, Nov. 2 -- THE Tanzanian government has announced plans to recruit teachers in the 2026/27 financial year, saying successful applicants will be posted to areas with the greatest need.

However, the government has acknowledged that the country continues to face a significant shortage of teachers, particularly in science subjects, noting that most unemployed teachers are those specialising in non-science subjects.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Ministers Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Dr Festo Dugange, made the remarks today, Monday, November 2, 2026, while responding to MPs questions on the teacher shortage, which he said currently stands at more than 33 per cent.
