TABORA, Oct. 22 --  TANZANIA Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has recorded success in its initiative to connect rural and urban residents with an electric stove system on credit.

The programme has come a few days after the corporation officially launched a programme known in Kiswahili as Konekt Umeme, Pika kwa Umeme (Connect Electricity, Cook with an electric stove).

This programme, which is being implemented nationwide, is part of the National Energy Compact that aims to connect 8.5 million Tanzanian citizens to electricity by 2030, equivalent to approximately 1.7 million new customers each year.
