MWANZA, Sept. 16 -- FOUR nuns from the Congregation of Carmelite Missionary Sisters of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus have died following a head-on collision between their vehicle and a truck in Mwanza Region.

Among the deceased is the Superior General of the congregation, Sister Nelina Semeoni (60), an Italian national.

According to Mwanza Regional Police Commander Wilbrod Mutafungwa, the fatal accident occurred on the night of September 15, 2025, at 1:50 AM in Bukumbi Village, Idetemya Ward, Misungwi District, along the Usagara–Kigongo Ferry Road.

The nuns were reportedly on their way to Mwanza Airport from the Bukumbi Community in Misungwi District when the accident happened.
