ZANZIBAR, Sept. 15 -- PRESIDENT  Samia Suluhu Hassan has hailed Tanzanian marathoner Alphonce Felix Simbu for winning the countrys gold medal in the World Athletics Championship held in Tokyo, Japan, over the weekend.

Simbu won the grueling 42km Marathon race in a dramatic finish, clocking  2 hours, 9 minutes, and 48 seconds.

“Hongera sana Alphonce Simbu,” Samia wrote on her Instagram page and added that within  2 hours, 09 minutes, and 48 seconds, Simbu wrote a new chapter in Tanzanian history.

“We urge you to work harder after clinching a silver medal in the Boston Marathon in April this year, now that you have done it in Tokyo by winning the highly valued gold medal,” Dr Samia added.
