ZANZIBAR, Jan. 13 -- ZANZIBAR President, Hussein Mwinyi has announced that his government will construct a new stadium and continue upgrading existing facilities to transform the islands into a premier destination for regional and international competitions.

Speaking during eve of Zanzibar Revolution 62 anniversary on Sunday, the President stressed that these efforts would not only elevate the sports sector but also attract an influx of tourists and visitors to the island.

Addressing the nation, President Mwinyi said plans for the ongoing construction of 17 sports fields across Unguja and Pemba that will expand the islands capacity to host major sporting events.
