ZANZIBAR, Aug. 26 -- ZANZIBAR President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has reaffirmed his governments commitment to protecting womens rights, citing strong policies and laws that safeguard gender equality, security, and the creation of safe urban and community spaces.

In his remarks when officially opening the 7th Global Conference on Safe Cities and Communities for Women and Girls, held at the Madinat Al-Bahr Hotel in Mbweni, on Unguja Island, he underlined that the Zanzibar government has been taking bold steps to strengthen public safety and eliminate gender-based violence through robust policies and the implementation of targeted strategies.
