DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 19 -- THE historic passenger vessel MV Liemba is set to resume operations on September 1, 2026, ending an eight year hiatus following a comprehensive 34bn/- rehabilitation project.

The Project Manager for the vessels rehabilitation, Engineer Elias Kivara, told the Minister for Transport, Prof Makame Mbarawa, that the works have reached 97 per cent completion.

Engineer Kivara provided the update when Prof Mbarawa visited the vessel and witnessed its launching into the water to begin trials.

He said the trials, which started on August 15, will continue until August 21, after which the vessel will be prepared to commence operations on September 1, sailing from Kigoma Port to Mpulungu Port in Zambia.
