DODOMA, Oct. 18 -- THE number of Tanzanians accessing insurance services increased by 3.4 per cent to 26.8 million in 2025 from 25.9 million in 2024, covering 39.3 per cent of the countrys estimated population of 68.1 million.

According to the Insurance Annual Performance Report for 2025, issued by the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA), the expansion in coverage coincided with strong financial growth in the sector, with gross written premiums rising by 68.4 per cent to 2.55tri/- in 2025 from 1.52tri/- in the previous year.

Also, the insurance penetration rose to 2.11 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up from 2.08 per cent in the previous year.
