DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 27 -- HUNDREDS of mourners, including government officials, diplomats and religious leaders, gathered in Dar es Salaam yesterday for special prayers (khitma) honouring the late Hafidh Ameir, husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Ameir died on September 7 at the age of 80 and was buried in Zanzibar.

The memorial service at the family-organised gathering drew prominent figures, including Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology Wanu Hafidh Ameir, who is the late Ameirs daughter.

Leading the prayers, Mufti and Chief Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir urged mourners to remember the deceased and reflect on their own mortality.
