DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 9 -- FOREIGN exchange reserves remained above key adequacy benchmarks in July this year, strengthening the countrys external liquidity position and providing a cushion for import financing and international payments.

The latest Bank of Tanzania Monthly Economic Review shows that gross official reserves at about 6 billion US dollars in July, down from a peak of nearly 6.7 billion US dollars around September last year.

Despite the moderation, reserves remained well above the countrys benchmark of about 4 billion US dollars and broadly matched the Southern African Development Community (SADC) benchmark of around 6 billion US dollars.
