ARUSHA, June 24 -- CYBERSECURITY and data protection have been identified as key priorities in the implementation of the East African Community (EAC) budget as the region advances towards a digital economy.

Contributing to the ongoing East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) debate in Arusha yesterday, EALA Member from Rwanda, Ms Fatma Ndangiza, said digital transformation must be matched with strong systems to protect citizens data and ensure online safety.

She noted that while digitalisation presents vast opportunities, challenges linked to social media platforms and digital identity systems require coordinated action among Partner States.
