ZANZIBAR, Sept. 22 -- THE President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has sent a message of condolence following the death of Mama Fatma Karume, widow of the late Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume, Zanzibars first President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council. She died on September 21, 2026.

President Samia extended her condolences to Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi; former Zanzibar President Amani Abeid Karume; the family of the late Sheikh Karume; relatives, friends, the people of Zanzibar and Tanzanians at large.

She also prayed for God to grant the bereaved family and those affected by the loss strength, comfort and patience during this difficult period. ...
