DAR ES SALAAM, May 9 -- PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed prison authorities to uphold the dignity, rights and welfare of female inmates, stressing that women prisoners have unique needs that must be respected.

The President gave the directives in Dar es Salaam today, May 9, 2026, during the graduation ceremony for the 48th Advanced Leadership Course for the 2025/26 academic year at the Tanzania Correctional Academy.

Speaking at the event, the Head of State said although inmates are serving punishment for crimes committed, their humanity and dignity must remain protected at all times.
