DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 10 -- WE have reason to view our agricultural sector with confidence. Rising food production, expanding irrigation and improved access to inputs, finance, technology and markets are laying foundations for a transformation that could reshape the countrys future.

However, the challenge is to turn these gains into a bigger promise with a more productive farmer, higher rural incomes, greater food security and a Tanzania capable of feeding itself and a regional market. Recent production figures are encouraging.

Cereal output has risen sharply, while traditional cash-crop production reached about 1.6 million tonnes in 2025/26, a 10 per cent increase from the previous season.
