MWANZA, Aug. 6 -- THE Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB) is targeting a fivefold increase in cotton yields through improved farming technologies and fertiliser use, aiming to raise average production from 200 kilogrammes to 1,000 kilogrammes per acre.

According to the board, higher productivity will improve farm profitability, raise rural incomes and strengthen the cotton sectors contribution to the national economy.

Speaking at the ongoing Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition at Nyamhongolo grounds in Mwanza yesterday, TCB Agriculture Officer Mr Dotto Charles said the event provides a platform to train farmers on modern cotton production techniques and demonstrate technologies that can improve yields.
