KIGOMA, Sept. 22 -- ALLIANCE One Tobacco Tanzanias tree-planting project in Buhigwe District, Kigoma is expected to reduce reliance on natural forests for firewood and safeguard the environment for future generations.
The farm, projected to yield 67,000 trees with a potential market value of 400m/-, also provides sustainable resources for tobacco curing, benefiting both the community and government.
Buhigwe Farm Forestry Officer Robert Mogera said the project began last November with land preparation, hole digging and planting of fastgrowing, drought-resistant Eucalyptus trees.
“The Buhigwe project is designed to provide sustainable firewood for tobacco curing while protecting natural forests,” he said over the weekend.
