DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 9 -- THE government has committed to clearing all access roads and neighbouring streets surrounding the New Kariakoo Main Market to ensure 24-hour operations, enhanced security and the protection of the 28bn/- public investment.
Speaking yesterday during the grand opening officiated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Minister of State in the Prime Ministers Office (PMO-RALG), Professor Riziki Shemdoe, said the markets efficiency depends on unhindered accessibility.
Prof Shemdoe said the government closely supervised the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the market following the 2021 fire incident, noting that Kariakoo remains a vital commercial hub for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and the wider region.
