Yoshitha Rajapaksa granted bail; court imposes foreign travel ban
Sri Lanka, June 17 -- Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
Earlier today (17), he was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) after appearing before the Commission to provide a statement.
According to CIABOC, Rajapaksa, a former officer of the Sri Lanka Navy, was taken into custody on charges of aiding and abetting an offence of corruption.
The allegations relate to his recruitment as a midshipman in the executive branch of the Sri Lanka Navy in 2006 without meeting the required qualifications, and his subsequent selection for training at the Britannia Royal Naval College in the United King...
