Srilanka, July 9 -- National Freedom Front leader and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today following a summons related to a controversial public statement.

Weerawansa was called in for questioning regarding a remark he made during a media briefing on January 29, where he claimed that 323 imported containers belonged to a provincial governor. This statement has since led to multiple complaints, including one filed by Western Province Governor Hanif Yusuf on January 30, citing targeted propaganda on social media.
