Sri Lanka, Dec. 24 -- Veteran actor Sathischandra Edirisinghe, who enriched Sri Lankan cinema, theatre, and television for over five decades as both an actor and director, passed away on the night of the 22nd at the age of 84. Edirisinghe's artistic career spanned more than half a century. Born in Kelaniya on February 11, 1941, he began his journey in 1953 with the 'Lamapitiya' children's programme on Radio Ceylon. He entered the stage in 1961, with his first directorial venture being the play 'Bakathapas'.
