Sri Lanka, Oct. 27 -- The three-judge bench of the Gampaha High Court has set January 14, 2026 as the date for the pronouncement of the verdict in the case of the murder of Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his bodyguard in Nittambuwa town on May 9, 2022, during the Aragalaya period.
The Attorney General had filed indictments against 41 defendants in this case, of whom defendant number 13 and 31 have now died.
Furthermore, the two defendants, 39 and 40, have evaded the court and accordingly, the trial was held against thirty-seven defendants.
