University allowance for differently-abled students
Sri Lanka, June 2 -- The Government will provide an allowance of 5,000 rupees, in addition to the Mahapola Scholarship, for students with disabilities who qualify for university education.
MP Sugath Wasantha de Silva said funds for the allowance have been allocated from this year's budget.
He said this when he visited the house of Niroshan Dhananjaya Sandaruwan Chandrasiri in Akuramboda, Pallepola, Matale, to inquire about his well-being. Niroshan, who is completely visually impaired, sat for the Advanced Level (A/L) examination and passed with three 'A's, coming 31st in the Matale district to secure university admission.
