The accident involved a van carrying a group of people who were returning to Buttala after completing an official task at a garment factory in Avissawella.

A 56-year-old man named K. R. Wansathilaka, a resident of D04, Ela Athupara Yaya, Dambulla, who was travelling in the van, has died in the accident.
