Sri Lanka, April 1 -- The Government has approved the installation of 25 standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with each capacity of 10 MW/40 MWh to better integrate rapidly growing solar power into the national grid and enhance overall system stability, Cabinet spokesman, Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
During the weekly cabinet press briefing yesterday (31), he added that the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday (30) granted approval to two proposals submitted by the Energy Minister.The first authorises the implementation of 25 BESS units, each with a capacity of 10 MW / 40 MWh. These systems will be developed, owned, and operated over a 15-year period.
