Sri Lanka, June 5 -- Three people, including a schoolboy, were killed and the driver injured after a large turpentine tree fell onto a moving three-wheeler in the Nawalapitiya area yesterday (4) morning.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. while the three-wheeler was travelling from Galaboda to Nawalapitiya. Two women and a schoolboy were among the passengers on board at the time of the incident.

The tree reportedly collapsed onto the vehicle near the Mapakanda Temple along the route, causing severe damage and trapping the occupants.

Police said the two women and the schoolboy succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The injured driver was rushed to the Nawalapitiya Base Hospital for treatment.
