Srilanka, July 17 -- A sudden tornado struck the Siyambalanduwa Divisional Secretariat Division on the evening of July 16, damaging homes in several villages, according to A.H. Ravindra Kumara, Deputy Director of the Monaragala Disaster Management Unit.

Approximately 20 houses in Weragoda, Navgala, Kotagoda, and Kongaspitiya suffered roof damage, while fallen trees also caused additional destruction. Roads blocked by debris were swiftly cleared with the help of the Divisional Secretariat and Disaster Management Unit.

Grama Niladharis, technical officers, and disaster officials have begun assessing the damage. Immediate repairs will be carried out for homes that are salvageable, while severely damaged houses will be assessed for compens...
