Sri Lanka, June 24 -- According to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), obtaining a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) has become increasingly important for the smooth conduct of everyday financial and administrative activities, with around 13 million TINs already issued across the country.

The IRD said every company incorporated or registered in Sri Lanka is required to register with the Commissioner-General within 30 days and obtain a TIN certificate. The department emphasized that a TIN is not confidential information and that relevant authorities may request it when carrying out their duties.
