Sri Lanka, March 4 -- The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced that, effective April 1, 2026, a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate will be a mandatory requirement for several key services and transactions across Sri Lanka.Sri Lanka banking

Under the provisions of the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Act of 2026, the Commissioner General is authorized to issue these certificates to any individual or entity holding a TIN to ensure a streamlined tax registration process.

Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, Rukdevi Fernando, confirmed that specified officials-including bank managers, land registrars, and divisional secretaries-are now legally required to verify the TIN certificate before providing services.
