India, Sept. 7 -- The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers for several parts of the island today, according to the forecast issued at 5.30 a.m. on 7 September 2026.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts, after 2.00 p.m., the department said. Fairly heavy falls exceeding 50 mm are likely at some places in the Uva and Eastern provinces.

A few showers will also occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.

The public has been asked to take adequate precautions to minimize damage from localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers....
