Temporalities Act will be amended - President
Sri Lanka, May 28 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday said that amendments will be brought to the Sections 41 and 42 of the Buddhist Temporalities Act of 1931 at the request of Maha Nayake Theras of three Chapters.
The President said that the Act will be amended, restoring the authority to the Maha Sangha to take disciplinary action through the Dhamma courts against monks who violate discipline. "The Maha Sangha of the three Nikayas formally submitted this request to me in writing. Our Minister presented a Cabinet paper on the matter, which received Cabinet approval. Accordingly, amendments were drafted", he said.
