Suspect arrested with over 1000 kg of cannabis
Sri Lanka, Aug. 24 -- A 30-year-old resident from the Hambegamuwa area was arrested with a stock of dry cannabis valued at over 70 million rupees. .
The Walana Central Anti-Corruption Striking Force said during the raid, police officers seized 1,044 kg and 180 g of dry cannabis hidden in fertiliser sacks on the banks of the Mau Aru canal at the end of Gomagala Road in Hambegamuwa. The Police said a cannabis plantation had been illegally cultivated inside the Udawalawe National Park Reserve and the crop had been harvested, dried, and hidden in preparation to be transported and distributed to various parts of the island.
