Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- The National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) in a statement over the proposed extension of the terms of judges of the higher courts through the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution on Wednesday said that the legislators must ensure the Supreme Court is not placed in a position where it has to hear its own case.
The NMSJ is of the views that the proposed Amendment should be carried out only after careful consideration and a deep, multi-party discussion involving all relevant stakeholders. "In this process, it is the responsibility of all parties to ensure that the Supreme Court (SC) is not placed in a position where it has to hear a case concerning the extension of the terms of its own judges", the NMSJ said....
