Srilanka, June 5 -- A major public health initiative titled "Gift of Vision Sri Lanka" recently carried out 400 free cataract surgeries at the Matara District General Hospital over just two days, significantly easing the hospital's backlog of nearly 2,000 patients awaiting the procedure.

The program was carried out under the guidance of Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Ophthalmologists and with funding support from the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Association. The surgeries were conducted entirely free of charge.

The effort was led and supervised by Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni and Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe, who reviewed progress on-site. The Ey...
