Sri Lanka, April 23 -- The Government has officially declared Vesak Week from May 27 to June 2, 2026, featuring nationwide religious activities under the theme Abhiththaretha Kalyane (Let us hasten towards the common good).
The main State celebrations will be held at the Midellawala Purana Viharaya in Matara on May 27, with special programmes organised by the Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Ministry.
The week includes islandwide programmes, including almsgiving (dansalas), devotional songs (bhakti gee), lantern displays, and Buddhist teachings.
The inauguration of the State Vesak Festival at Matara, with concurrent district and divisional events, will be conducted on May 28.
