Sri Lanka, April 28 -- Sri Lankan scholar Dr. Aruna Keerthi Goigoda Gamage has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Friedrich-Weller Prize in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of Buddhist Studies.

The award which was presented recently at the Saxon Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Leipzig, Germany, was conferred in recognition of his scholarly monograph titled "Buddhaghosa, His Sources, and the Buddhist Others: Authority and Heterodoxy in Early Mahavihara Commentaries", which was published in 2025. The work is an expanded version of his doctoral research submitted to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
